About Jane

I've been fascinated by gardening since I was a little kid. I love spring when flower bulbs are blooming and gardens begin to "wake up" from their winter slumber. Our farm sits on 90 acres of God's country. We have a heard of deer. Many people think you can't have nice landscaping or flower beds because deer will just mow them down. I know what plants and combinations of plants deer will pass-up.

Butterfly Gardens

Perennial Flower Beds
I mainly plant perennials - flowers that come back every spring. This reduces garden maintenance and the cost of having to buy new plants (annuals) every spring. I focus on "pollinator gardens". Deer avoid them and they attract all kinds and colors of butterflies as well as bumble bees and hummingbirds. By adding the Butterfly Milkweed plant to the mix, my garden attracts the endangered Monarch Butterfly. Monarchs will only lay eggs on this plant, so every summer, we have Monarch catapillers that magically transform into beautiful butterflies.
